Shop Amazon Now For The Best Deals On Cameras And Photography Equipment In 2022

 A lot of people are always looking for the best deals on all kinds of cameras. I have found that Amazon has some of the best deals on Dslr, Mirrorless and Point & Shoot  Cameras. I always advise everyone to check out the sellers ratings and reviews on the product in question. That is what I did when I purchased my Canon EOS Rebel T6 Dslr and Canon EOS Rebel T7 Cameras. I can say without a doubt that these are some awesome beginner cameras and I have never had a problem with them.

 I should note that the ezine article below is a few years old, but the idea is still relevant. I myself generally find that both Amazon and Ebay are very close in price. The big difference between the two is the selling of New and Used Cameras and Photography Equipment. So my advise is check them both out and make an educated decision.

 Another type of photography that has become quite popular is the use of a Drone with a camera. Many photographers have found that they can get some awesome photographs. Digital Cameras - Which is Cheaper, eBay Or Amazon?

 We have decided to carry out a simple "straw poll" and compare the prices of several models of digital camera on both eBay and Amazon. We want to make clear right from the start that this is not some sophisticated statistical method, but just a sample of the kinds of prices the average online shopper might come across, perhaps while using one of the online shopping comparison services that are out there.

We took 5 popular models of digital camera completely at random and looked for the best price we could find on both eBay and Amazon within a few minutes of browsing. We made sure the cameras on offer were comparable, i.e. were the exact same model and did not offer any bundled extras. Also, in the case of eBay, we made sure that they were brand new cameras, which usually means they are sold by professional eBay sellers, rather than individuals, and were not second-hand (that would be a different story altogether). Prices vary on eBay, so we tried to simulate the browsing that a typical customer might employ when looking for a digital camera and settling for what looked subjectively like a good deal. We also checked into the cost of shipping (though did not include tax as that would depend on the customer's location), which was mostly free to mainland US.

So here are the models of digital camera that we looked at, and the prices we found:

Remember, these prices are not supposed to be quotes of any kind - they may well be out of date by the time you read this! But that's not the point, we want to see by this rough survey which online shop is cheaper for digital cameras when taking a general average. So what have we found?

If you had bought all five of these cameras through eBay, you would have paid a total of $2,290.29.

If you had bought them from Amazon, you would have paid a total of... wait for it... $2,168.50!

So that would be a saving of $121.79 if you bought these five digital cameras through Amazon! Doesn't sound like much? Well, it's more than 5%! And equal to the price of a budget digital camera!

Maybe some would say that an extra 5% extra discount is not worth comparison shopping for, but there are plenty of us, especially in these troubled economic times, who would go that extra mile to find a 5% discount on a camera purchase.

Again, we must emphasize that this is not a mega-scientific approach, nor do we guarantee that you will find everything cheaper on Amazon than on eBay! But hopefully it will serve to dispel the common myth that "everything is cheaper on eBay" and to persuade you that while great bargains can certainly be found on eBay, Amazon is certainly not to be ignored when you are making your next digital camera purchase!

As I have stated in a previous blog post, I have a Canon Rebel EOS T6 Dslr Camera. I bought mine refurbished from Canon, because it was a good deal. I spoke to a professional photographer and he explained that buying the camera refurbished or renewed from Canon has been gone over with a fine toothed comb. They make sure everything is working properly or has been replaced.

 I myself can verify this, because I was a warranty certified Canon Technician. I was certified on Printers and Cameras. When anything came in, I thoroughly went over it and replaced all defective parts. Now with cameras, I went over them and generally sent them in for further repair. Sometimes they repaired it or replaced it and sent it back.

 I never had any issue with anything that came back. I also never had a customer bring the item back in for repair either.

This is an explanation of what arrives when you by this camera online. I ordered mine through Amazon but, as it arrived as a single item boxed and packaged by Canon, I am sure that the items I received are the same anyone would regardless of where it was ordered.

The box is smaller than I thought it would be - and lighter. I know that the small size is a selling point for this camera, but I expected the box to be larger, especially as I had ordered the kit lens as well. The first thing in the box as you open it is the paperwork. The guarantee and a small, basic manual. It is small - the size of a pocket book and quite thin. If you want to know this camera thoroughly you would be well advised to buy a manual, or go to the canon website and download their full manual.

Then, next out of the box is the canon strap. Needless to say you should really always have the camera fixed to someone or something - yourself or a tripod. Gravity is not a photographer's friend. In fact most professional photographers I know will put their cameras on the floor when they are not using them, rather than risk them falling off a chair or a table. being accidentally kicked causes much less damage.

Then you will find the battery charger, the electric cable for it and the cannon battery. Although the battery will often have some charge when it comes out of the box, it is always best to fully charge it because it helps to lengthen the battery life if it is regularly charged to the maximum. In this case it took about four hours. This is a Canon branded battery - the Rechargeable Li-ion Battery LP-E10. It is always better to get the branded battery because, sometimes the camera won't recognize a generic battery, especially if you are using them in a battery grip, for example.

Next out of the box is the USB cable, which will connect your camera to a computer. obviously this allows you to download your images or videos directly to a computer or hard drive. The Canon T6/1300D does boat both NFC )near field communication) and WiFi, so you can download your pictures straight to a computer, the internet or social media platforms like Facebook or YouTube. But that might not be practical with large files or folders and then the cable would be preferred. The cable is also useful if you need to upload anything to the camera, like firmware updates.

As I usually shoot with Nikon cameras, I decided to buy the kit lens with the camera. There are two available and I chose to get the cheaper of the two, the EF-S 18-55m IS II. It has some good reviews and I am looking forward to testing it out and comparing it with my Nikon lenses. So this is the next thing out of the box.

And finally, the main event. The Canon Rebel T6/EOS 1300D. My initial feeling is that it is a small, well made camera. The body is nicely molded and feels robust and tough. It feels good in hand and has a solid weight. It is small, but no so much that the buttons are too small, or that the kit lenses affects the balance. It has a tight grip, which means you could hold it comfortably with one hand. I think you need to be right-handed for this camera, as the buttons on the back are designed to be worked with the right hand.

Overall I am impressed. The camera feels like it is a grown up camera. It is not flimsy and, although the body is plastic, it does not feel thin or fragile. The lens feels a good weight, and is solid. On the camera it is quick and responsive. The box contains everything you need to get started, except for a memory card. I am really looking forward to testing this camera out.

Tips For Photographing Waterfalls

Introduction.
 
Waterfalls make a great subject for landscape photography. Either as part of a panoramic view or as a stand-alone landscape, waterfall scenes can be quite spectacular.

You have seen pictures of waterfalls in magazines and books and would love to be able to take pictures such as those. Well it is not as hard as you may think. In this article you will find some simple tips to use when confronted with a magnificent waterfall.
 
Prepare.
 
These are a few items that you should consider having with you on your outing to the waterfalls or any other photo shoot for that matter.
 
1)     A tripod is a must. You will be using long shutter speeds and it is essential to keep the camera rock steady.
2)     Use a shutter release cable instead of the shutter release button. This is not an essential piece of equipment if you are very careful. However it is possible to get camera shake when you press the shutter release button.
3)     Use a neutral density filter. This will help keep the shot from being overexposed in the lighter areas such as sky, clouds, snow etc. It will also help reduce the light source so you can use longer exposure times. The longer exposure will give the flowing water of the falls that silky appearance. This makes for a much more attractive shot.
4)     If possible take a variety of lenses. This of course will enable you to take shots from wide angle panoramic to tight-in telephoto. It will also enable you to take shots from varying distances.
5)     A lens hood will cut down on flaring especially if there are sunny periods.
6)     Put your equipment in a backpack. This is the most comfortable way to carry it. Make it as light as possible.
7)     If you will be walking trails to get to the falls make sure you have a trail map and make it an outing with friends. Always remember safety first.
 
Camera tips.
 
Here are some tips about your camera settings. Not all cameras will have all of these settings. Read your cameras manual and use the settings that are available to you.
 
1)     If you can adjust the ISO on your camera, set it low, 100 should be fine. If your camera does not go that low do not worry, just set it as low as you can.
2)     Try different f-stops to see which affect you like best. A higher f-stop will give you a greater depth of field and allow for a longer shutter speed without over exposing the shot.
3)     Experiment with the shutter speed. Try 1 or 2 seconds or even longer. The effect will be dazzling. The longer the exposure the softer the moving water will appear.
4)     Set the camera to bracket the shot. When you hold the shutter release down the camera will take three shots. One at regular exposure then one a little under and one a little overexposed. You can then choose the one you like the best.
5)     Set the white balance manually. Again, your cameras manual will tell you how to do this.
 
Taking the shot.
 
Now it is finally time to take the picture. Here are a few suggestions to get you started.
 
1)     Start taking your pictures from a distance, and gradually move in closer. This will help to keep the scene from becoming contaminated. You do not want ugly footprints in your scene especially if it is a winter scene. (For those of us who get snow in the wintertime.)
2)     Take your pictures when the waterfall is in the shade. The best time of day is early morning or evening when the light is not so direct. An overcast day is also great for shooting waterfalls. The cloudy conditions help to diffuse the light.
3)     Frame the falls with the rocks of the cliff or trees, or ice formations. If you get ice and snow during your winter this is absolutely the best time to photograph waterfalls
4)     Do not put the waterfalls right in the center of the shot. Try for an angle from one side or the other or place the falls offset in the frame. If you can get close to the bottom or the top of the falls without getting your camera wet this can make for a spectacular shot. Always remember. Safety first. Do not try for that spectacular shot if there is a danger of falling.
5)     Try tilting the camera at different angles. Sometimes this can give you a perspective you did not see at first. A tall slender waterfall looks better when the camera is tilted 90 degrees, to give a portrait view. A wide waterfall looks better taken with the camera level in a landscape view.
 
Summary.
 
Make preparation, collect together the proper equipment and travel as light as possible. There will be hiking involved.

Decide on a strategy for the shoot. Write down the settings you will want to use in an order that flows well.

Approach with a plan. Take your distance shots first to avoid contaminating the scene. Have your shots planned before hand. But be prepared for that unexpected, unplanned shot. You will find that those are often the prize shots of your outing.

When walking into the falls pay attention to your surroundings. You never know when a terrific shot will present itself. Where ever you go always be looking for photographic opportunities.
Go out often and you will find that you learn something new each time and you will be able to see the improvement in your photography.

Waterfall Photography Tips #1 - Slow Shutter Speed

Why use a slow shutter speed? This is because slow shutter speed will help blur the image of the water. Thus, a silky-look is created. This impacts the viewers of your image to see the water in the photograph as if in motion.

In most cases, it works well when you set your shutter speed to a few seconds. However, the numbers of seconds you ought to set your shutter speed to is dependent on the speed of the flow of water you are capturing.

Canon EOS 1300D - Rebel T6 - Camera Review, How Good Is It?

The Canon Rebel T6, or 1300D as it is also called, is an entry-level DSLR camera, designed for people who want to develop their photography and perhaps move up from compact photography or bridge camera photography.

It has a good range of options in terms of helping people progress from the fully Auto settings to the preset ranges such as portrait or landscape, or food photography and and then on to the semi-automatic settings (Aperture priority or Shutter Speed priority on to full manual. It's quite nicely done. The design of the camera is simple, so it doesn't overwhelm you with too many buttons or distracting options. It's very well put together, and feels solid in the hand. The button tends to be designed for a right-handed photographer.

The file size it is just over 18 megapixels. There are cameras in this band which will offer you 24 megapixels, but 18 will give you 50 megabyte file and that's pretty much big enough for anybody. Professional cameras only five years ago would have shot about 18 possibly 24 megapixels as a maximum, so this is a pretty decent size.

The second thing to look at is the processor which is a DIGIC4+ processor. It is a an incremental increase on the DIGIC4 but Canon say it's about 60% percent faster and more efficient which is pretty good, and as a processor for this type of camera it works very well. It produces very high quality images and it can turn them around very quickly which means that when you get onto the burst speed which is 3 frames per second - not the fastest - but when you are shooting Jpgs at 3 frames per second, you can shoot continuously because the processor is fast enough to turn those into jpegs and format them very quickly. Which means there's no lag at all.

The next thing to talk about is the ISO range. It starts at 100 and goes up to 6,400 with a possible boost up to 12,800. Now to be honest most photographers probably won't want to go beyond 3,200 for this camera. To be fair, there's not a great deal of noise up to 3,200. There is a bit getting up to 6400 and more at 12800. But most photographers will probably want to work with in the 100 to 800 range and for that this is a pretty good camera.

The Rebel T6 also has a high resolution screen on the back which is very useful for two reasons - first of all you will need it if you're going to shoot video because that's how you look to shoot video through the screen. You will also possibly want it for shooting stills. This is ideal for people coming up from compact photography because that's how they shot before. The screen itself is very good it's actually really good high resolution and it does represent what you would see through the lens very well. The other reason for the screen is that it allows you to navigate through the menus and the tabs. It is not too complicated on the menus - it's actually quite intuitive.

In terms of Auto focus it has nine points which is OK. There are cameras which have more and why would you have more? Well if you're shooting something very small and very fast then having more focus points is useful, but for most purposes having a nine-point diamond shape focus Autofocus system is enough and as I say because we go back again to the processor the processor is quick enough so the autofocus is pretty sharp and pretty quick. The only places where you find difficulty are in very low light and also sometimes when you're shooting something which is low contrast so if you're shooting something which is all the same or similar sorts of colors. It will sometimes have difficulty focusing on that.

In terms of video it's actually very easy to use - there's an option on the dial. It will shoot Full HD 1080, it will shoot HD 720 and then it will go down to 640 as well it shoots progressive not interlace and so actually the quality that comes out of here is really pretty good. Of course Canon have an excellent reputation for video cameras.

One of the great selling points of this camera is its connectivity It has Wi-Fi and NFC connections which means that you can either send pictures, or videos, for that matter to your phone or your laptop computer and get them on social media or to your social media platforms very quickly and that's a really useful thing. Obviously it's for a generation who are into that kind of thing and they're the generation probably who are moving up from the compacts and the bridges so it's a really useful function.

Overall, this is a very good camera - especially for those who want to learn about photography and take it further. If you wanted to be picky you could say that it doesn't really excel anywhere. The only thing that is cutting edge is the Wi-Fi connectivity. You could say that the frame speed is a bit slow - yes it is. You could say that 9 point AF could be better - yes it could, and you could. But this is a very competitively priced camera for people who want to learn about photography and take it further. I think on that basis Canon have probably made most of the right decisions.

There are a couple of things I would have quite liked to have seen. I'd have liked to have seen an HDR function because I think that produces really strong photography and encourages people to take more pictures because they like that look. Also I don't quite liked for video to have had an external microphone socket which I don't think would have cost too much to put in and would have taken the video potential of this camera little bit further.
